A Convergence workshop on ‘People’s Right: Role of Community Leaders’ was organised for 20 community leaders of Darrang, Dhemaji, Golaghat, Kamrup, Kokrajhar, Sonitpur and Udalguri districts of Assam from 11th July to 14th July, 2017. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Joshamoyee Devi, Chairperson of North East Network. The resource persons for the workshop were Nani Saikia, Director of SATRA, Sipajhar on the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005 and its practical application; Akole from NEN Nagaland on Women farmers right; Anurita, NEN Assam on Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressel) Act, 2013 and Nilanju Dutta, NEN Assam on Burnout and Healing.
An exposure trip was also organized to Shishu Sarothi for the community leaders to develop an understanding on the issue of disability, rights and entitlements of person with disability (PWD) so that they can engage with persons with disability in their field areas. Sashwati Saikia conducted an orientation for the team.
The last day of the workshop focused on developing an action plan for the next six months to be taken up by the community leaders on the issues of gender based discrimination & VAW and governance and livelihood.
