NEN organised training on Feminist Counselling on 27th September 2017 with the following objectives:
1. To enhance the skills of counsellor in dealing with cases of violence against women and children.
2. To make aware of the legal role that they must play in responding to the same.
The resource person for the training was Darilyn Syiem, Governing Body Member of NEN. A total of 31 participants included professional counsellors from different sectors like Primary Health Centres (PHC), Community Health Centres (CHC), Hospitals, Colleges, Schools, Shelter Homes and NGOs along with few service providers who did not have prior counselling experience- medical officers, staff nurse, Block Extension Educator (BEE), Community Health Officer (CHO) and Lady Health Educators (LHV).
The sessions included- basic concepts of counselling; theoretical understanding of feminism; role play and sharing of experiences in dealing with issues like child sexual abuse. Need was felt to bring more boys to the counselling spaces. The training paved way for future work with the stakeholders from different sectors.
