About North East Network:

North East Network (NEN) was established in 1995 with a vision to build a society in the north-east region that upholds gender justice and equality. NEN is a women’s rights organisation linking rural and urban women, and organisations on development and related issues within NEN. It works in Assam, Nagaland and Meghalaya. 

NEN works on four thematic areas – (a) Gender Based Violence against Women (b) Good Governance & State Accountability (c) Natural Resource Regeneration and (d) Livelihoods and Resilience.

About Saneki Weaves: 

Saneki Weaves is an outcome of the livelihood initiative of North East Network (NEN). It was started in 2017. It focuses on promoting local resources and developing existing skills of women. We are working to revive the traditional handloom and back-strap weaving practices of women from different communities in Assam.

Saneki Weaves (SW) is facilitated by Gramin Mahila Kendras (GMK i.e. rural women’s centres) in 5 districts of Assam. These Kendras are led by women leaders from the community who respond to aggrieved women and link domestic violence survivors with livelihood initiatives, weaving being one of them. It is realised through a home-based model. This programme also empowers weavers on issues of legal, social, cultural and economic rights and promotes leadership amongst them. The weavers are now economically stronger, along with gaining the confidence to speak up for their rights and create an equal society for all. The products of this initiative include cushion covers, table runners, dress materials, wall hangings, mekhela sadors and many more. Location: Assam, monthly field visit is mandatory.

Essential Skills & Capabilities:

  • Oversee the Implementation of livelihood projects, weaving initiatives in select districts of Assam;
  • Develop project plans and strategies for promotion of Saneki Weaves in consultation with Supervisor;
  • Overseeing budget utilisation and timely documentation of project activities;
  • Conduct field visit, collect data and prepare analytical report;
  • Identify weavers for livelihood projects and provide resources to strengthen the same;
  • Lead the team in quarterly production plan and monitor functioning of team members;
  • Develop tools to evaluate project progress and outcomes;
  • Facilitate training, campaigns and exposure trips for weavers;
  • Represent the organisation and participate in NEN programmes such as campaigns, workshops, trainings, meetings, melas and exhibitions at local and national level, etc.;
  • Volunteers for activities related to Nenterprise, a sister concern of NEN

Essential Qualification/s: Post Graduate or Graduate in social sciences/humanities, fashion technology, textile designing with minimum 2 years of experience preferably in NGOs focusing on women’s issues and livelihood projects.

Language Proficiency: Good written and communication skills in English and Assamese.

Commencement of Appointment: 15th December, 2024

Travel: Openness to conduct field work in different districts, NE region and outside as and when required.

Designation: State Coordinator

No. of Position/s: 1

Location: Chizami, Nagaland

Key Roles and responsibilities: 

  1. To lead state-level programs on community mobilisation, training, research, and advocacy from a gender and feminist perspective, overseeing daily operations, developing comprehensive interventions, and integrating NEN’s thematic focus on gender justice, environment, agroecology, and livelihoods for greater impact. 
  2. To engage with communities, build partnerships with various stakeholders, represent NEN in forums, and collaborate with SCs from Assam and Meghalaya on donor reporting and stakeholder communication. 
  3. Lead a team of 20+ staff, fostering collaboration, accountability, and learning, while guiding communication unit in preparing Annual Report and contributing strategic insights to the organisation’s growth.
  4. Collaborate with the Executive Director, senior NEN members, and communications team to secure funding through proposal development, identify new funding opportunities, and strengthen relationships with donors and state agencies.
  5. The SC will support the HR & Admin Lead in implementing performance management, training, and capacity-building for staff, collaborate on policy adherence, guide HR functions, monitor programme and financial updates, streamline daily accounting, and oversee budget compliance for NEN projects

Essential Skills: Passion for social justice and experience in Gender and Development is an added advantage.

Proven track record of programme management, team leadership and partnership building.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite. 

Capabilities: Strategic thinking, problem solving, adaptability. Capacity to work independently and interdisciplinary with diverse stakeholders including Government, NGOs, CBOs and community.

Understanding of and work experience on issues of Gender Based Violence, Governance & State Accountability, Natural Resource Regeneration, Livelihoods. Ability to work in a culturally diverse area. 

Essential Qualification/s and Experience: Post Graduate in Humanities/ Social Sciences or other related fields with minimum 7 years of experience in similar position or leadership position on women’s issues in nonprofit organisation.

Language Proficiency: Excellent written and communication skills in English and knowledge of Nagamese is an added advantage.

Travel: Must be willing to travel as and when required in project areas, between NEN State offices and other units.  

Commencement of Appointment: December, 2024/January, 2025.

Compensation and Employment:

Project Name: NEN Farm School: Fostering Youth Stewardship for Inclusive, Equitable and Regenerative Food Systems towards Climate Resilience in Nagaland

Project Duration: 18 months 

Length of Contract: 18 months

Expected Start date: January 2025

ABOUT THE PROJECT 

The Project aims to promote agroecological food systems to improve food and nutrition security, enhance livelihoods and local economies, and build climate resilience in Nagaland, with a special focus on youth aged 18-35 years. It envisions transforming the current lack of youth engagement into realizing the full potential of youth, fostering their stewardship and leadership in agroecological food systems.

The project will engage community youth of diverse gender identities and abilities, who are out-of-school, and belonging to disadvantaged and marginalised communities of Nagaland. Through a well-designed, relevant, holistic experiential education and skills training curriculum, the youth will learn about their environment, agroecological practices and approaches, climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies, and social justice. It will build awareness and capabilities of youth to become responsible consumers, sustainably manage resources, and participate in community development initiatives. The project also seeks to establish ecologically relevant livelihoods by equipping youth with the necessary skills and knowledge to design and implement projects that support local livelihoods, thereby contributing to their local economies. 

To amplify and spread the agroecological movement in Nagaland, the project will partner with community groups and NGOs located in different parts of northeast India, agroecology specialists, entrepreneurs, educators, social businesses, etc. 

JOB DESCRIPTION

The overall expectation of Associate Project Lead in NEN is to abide with the ideology and values of the organisation, carrying out the spirit of bringing change to rural communities. She/He/They will have the space to contribute innovative ideas to develop and promote issues of women and youth as envisioned in NEN’s vision and mission.

Scope of Work: 

  1. Anchor, manage and execute the project titled “NEN Farm School: Fostering Youth Stewardship for Inclusive, Equitable and Regenerative Food Systems towards Climate Resilience in Nagaland”
  2. Coordinate with and foster interactions with multiple stakeholders, including project partners and Government agencies, across different locations of Nagaland

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Planning, executing and monitoring of project strategy and activities, which includes conducting field visits and meetings, organising training/workshops/ Farm Schools
  2. Documentation of project activities, case studies; writing concept notes, project reports for donors and partners, and contributing to NEN annual reports, newsletters, IEC materials, etc. 
  3. Ensure that project activities are implemented on-time, within scope and budget 
  4. Ensure effective coordination and communication with programme participants, project partners, resource persons, mentors, and other stakeholders 
  5. Engage and support NEN-trained youths in agroecology based initiatives by providing inputs, information, etc
  6. Facilitate linkages with diverse stakeholders and institutions for the trained youth on various policies and programmes that support agroecology initiatives.
  7. Liaise with community institutions, Government agencies, women and youth collectives, where required. 
  8. Perform administrative tasks related to the project, where necessary
  9. Attend conferences/workshops/seminars/meetings/training as and when deputed/suggested by  NEN. 
  10. Travel within the state, region and/or outside where applicable.

Any other duty assigned keeping in mind the larger vision and mission of North East Network as a women’s organisation committed to promote social and gender justice.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Graduate and above with minimum 3+ years experience in development sector and minimum of 2 years experience in project management 
  • Computer skills – office management software like MS office, Google workspace tools, etc.

Skills & requirements

  • Enthusiasm and strong involvement in project work with diverse stakeholders  
  • Capacity to work independently and interdisciplinary with project partners and other stakeholders 
  • Knowledge and experience working with projects related to agroecology, livelihoods, youth development 
  • Prior working experience in Nagaland will be an added advantage 
  • Willingness to travel across locations in Nagaland 
  • Well organised, flexible, and open-minded 
  • Excellent spoken and written English, and Nagamese-speaking will be an added advantage

North East Network is looking for a Fundraising Consultant on a contractual basis for 1 year to fulfil the following terms and conditions-

Base Location: Guwahati, Assam

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of a long-term fundraising and resource mobilisation strategy for a women’s organisation
  • Develop frameworks and  templates for writing fundraising proposals in consultation with team
  • Identify and conduct resource mapping of donors and funders (national, international, bilateral and CSR among others) 
  • Develop communication materials for fund raising activities
  • Sustain networking, relationship building and communication with potential donors

Essential Skills & Capabilities:

  • Proven successful track record in fundraising for non-profit sector for 2 years (Enclose illustration) 
  • Excellent organisational management ,written and verbal communication skills related to this position. Fluency in English language is essential
  • Knowledge of women’s issues in the north east region of India is an added value
  • Ability to function under a challenging multicultural work environment and travel to Meghalaya and Nagaland as necessary
  • Participate in capacity building programmes of the organisation
