The NEN Youth Leadership Programme (NYLP) is a formulated leadership programme for youths on upskilling the knowledge of youth between 20-35 years through perspective-building workshops and skill enhancement training. The participants will go through a year-long process of perspective and capacity building that will stretch to 2 full-time residential training and mentoring of participants; through online and offline approaches.
The participants of the NYLP are to take up community issues/challenges and work towards finding solutions. However, not limited to working in isolation on one issue, but encouraging participants to interact with key stakeholders within the community and take active participation in community meetings to create community awareness.
The first cohort training was organised at the Women Resource Centre, Runguzu of Phek District and was attended by 17 youths from Phek (Thurutsuswu, Tsupfume, Razeba & Pfutsero), Shamator, Dimapur and Noklak District (Pathso Nokkeng) of Nagaland. On successful completion of the programme, participants will be awarded a certificate and an overall experience of working on community development projects.
The 1st cohort training was tailored to improve the self-esteem of young leaders, improve their self-expression and personal reflections to enable the youth to express themselves and in turn help their writing ability as well. Building team spirit through – real-life crisis management, to equip young minds to think more clearly in times of crisis, the training also provided a platform for the youths to speak up, creating a safe space for youth to express themselves without judgment. The activities ensured the participants kept their own opinions- however, providing a healthy debate among participants – to help exercise their minds and also observe different thought processes among peers. The training also focused on strengthening self-identities and compassion for one’s own community, reflecting back the uniqueness of each community the cohort represented. The program culminated with each participant prepping for the Community Immersion period, where the participants will delve deeper into the issues and challenges of the community each cohort has adopted for development in the specific areas.
