NEN on the 8th and 9th of June, 2017, organized a training programme for the staffs of Women’s Helpline (181), One Stop Crisis Centre-Shillong and Tura, Special Cell for Women (Sardar Police Station) and NEN on “Counseling Principles and Communication Skills” at the Directorate of Social Welfare.
The objectives of the training programme were:
• To impart essential and effective communication skills to the participants;
• To sensitize and train the participants on the basic ethical counseling principles;
• To elucidate the guidelines of ‘Women’s Helpline’: Roles and responsibilities.
The resource persons were Nilanju Dutta, Programme Coordinator, NEN (Guwahati) – on counseling principles and ethics, violence against women, the challenges in terms of addressing violence against women, burn-out in the field of counseling; and Phrang Kupar Kharbamon, Branch Manager, Jettwings Shillong – on ‘Basic etiquettes on communication’. 20 participants were equipped with concepts on violence against women, knowledge regarding counseling and communication skills.
