North East Network in collaboration with West Khasi Hills District Administration and Synjuk ki Seng Longkmie, Mawthadraishan Area observed the International Day of Rural Women on October 16, 2017. Following were the objectives of the programme:-
- Recognize women’s contribution to the agricultural sector.
- Raise Awareness on available programmes and schemes for rural women.
- Network between rural women’s group and State Agencies
The programme was attended by approximately 110 people, inclusive of 12 District Officials – Block Development Officer, District Social Welfare Officer, District Agriculture and Horticulture Officer, District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer, District Child Protection Officer (DCPO), District Programme Officer-ICDS, Assistant Registrar Cooperative Societies, Lead Bank Manager, District Fisheries Officer, Block Programme Manager-Basin Development Unit, Mission Director – Meghalaya State Resource Centre for Women and Block Project Manager – National Health Mission – Meghalaya, 2 partner organizations – NERCOMP and Grassroot – and about 90 women farmers.
The programme created awareness on services/schemes/programmes provided by different district departments and it also facilitated linkages between different government institutions and women’s groups in the area.
