In observance of the International Day of Rural Women, a Women Farmers’ Convention was organised by NEN Nagaland at Chizami on 15th October 2018. 108 women farmers from Phek and Kohima districts of Nagaland came together to celebrate the lives of rural women,strengthen solidarity, and to deliberate on issues and challenges of women farmers. The day’s event saw women playing team building games and exercises, extempore speech competition, group discussion on women farmers’ issues and agriculture.Photos– Women Farmers Convention
The NEN trained women leaders from Mawthadraishan Block, West Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya organized a programme in 2 villages- Myriaw and Mawlangsu. It was conducted with an aim to (i) Recognize women’s contribution to the agricultural sector and (ii) Raise awareness on women’s right to live a life free of violence both in public and private spheres.
The programme was inclusive of activities like mini market giving women the platform to display agricultural products produced in their own villages, extempore speech mostly focused on recognizing the role of women in the public and private sphere and musical chair competition. A total of 466 people from approximately 25 villages (inclusive of both men and women) participated in the programme.
