Art has the power to change society and shift the power of imagination into collective development. Young people represent a powerful force for social change and have an important role to play in creating a gender equal society.
With this aim, North East Network organised a portrait making workshop at Dahali Karka High School, Nohira in Kamrup (R) district, Assam on 20th May 2022.
The objective of this workshop in particular was to celebrate women’s contribution and their courage to challenge the norms of patriarchal society.
Women often remain anonymous and invisible in ‘His-tory.’ To challenge this, the youth painted ‘Her-story’ through the portraits of eminent women of Assam who have made exceptional contributions in different fields.
A total of 12 students (class VIII to X) participated under the guidance of Resource Person and eminent artist of Assam, Mayur Rajbonshi.
