Founded by Eve Ensler in 2012, to end rape and sexual violence against women, the One Billion Rising movement emerges each February as a powerful demonstration of solidarity. The campaign unites women, youth, and allies in their resistance to gender injustice, fostering a collective consciousness that challenges violence in all its forms. With the vision of upholding women’s rights and gender justice in NER, North East Network (NEN) is standing in unison with the global and national community to observe the 2025 “One Billion Rising” movement. Under the theme “Rise for Diversity and Inclusion of All,” NEN calls upon individuals from diverse gender identities across the region and beyond to stand together against gender-based violence and discrimination.
NEN Assam observed #OneBillionRising 2025 across the districts of Darrang, Dhemaji, Golaghat, Kamrup (R), and Udalguri, engaging 412 participants in conversations on gender equality and inclusivity—creatively explored through the Snake & Ladder game. Our campaign was strengthened by collaborations with Town M.E. School (Dhemaji), Pandit Hemchandra Goswami Vidyapeeth (Golaghat), and Sarpara Balika Vidyalaya (Kamrup R), fostering awareness and action for a gender-just world.
NEN Meghalaya marked #OneBillionRising 2025 through an evening of puppetry and live music, with 95 participants, uniting community mobilisers, youth, students, and women’s groups to call for a world free from violence and fear. The event featured a powerful puppetry show on surviving domestic violence, the screening of ‘Kingdom of Queens’, an engaging quiz, and inspiring musical and dance performances. Enthusiastic discussions and personal reflections highlighted the collective commitment to change.
