In observance of 16 Days Activism Campaign against Gender Based Violence, 8 grassroot women leaders were felicitated by North East Network, Meghalaya. These women leaders from East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills and West Jaintia Hills Districts were lauded for their contribution in uplifting the status of women and children. Approximately 65 invitees attended the programme, which was held on 30th November 2018 at Shillong Club, Shillong.
Smt. Theilin Phanbuh, Chairperson of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women graced the programme as the Chief Guest. In her keynote address, Smt. Phanbuh encouraged women to speak up against harassment and discrimination. She expressed concern as most of the women do not come forward that makes it difficult to take action against the perpetrator. She commented, “I feel proud to say that I am a woman. I am sure our women are very strong in spite of many problem and difficulties in life, they are still able to support and raise children”.
