On the occasion of Menstrual Hygiene Day, North East Network, Assam successfully conducted a three-day workshop from 24th to 26th May 2023 at Guwahati. It was specifically designed for young women peer educators associated with NEN’s Gramin Mahila Kendras.
Nilanju Dutta and Rashmirekha Bora of NEN Assam delivered an enlightening session on Understanding Gender and Patriarchy fostering a deeper understanding among the participants.
Resource Person Madhulika Shome from Assam, shared a feminist perspective on menstrual health and hygiene, providing participants with valuable insights, and also promoting a more inclusive and informed approach. “Period. End of Sentence.”, a thought-provoking documentary was screened.
Madhulika Shome also facilitated a session on myths and taboos dispelling prevalent myths and addressing social taboos surrounding menstrual health and hygiene, stimulating productive conversations and promoting progressive attitudes amongst the peer educators through group activity.
A performed conversation on perceptions of beauty standards prevailing in our society was conducted by Papari Medhi from Assam. It was one of the most powerful and captivating highlights of the workshop. Through this creative approach, participants were invited to understand and question the prevailing stereotypical social norms, ultimately fostering a more inclusive and empowered perspective on beauty and body.
