The Social Welfare Department, Government of Meghalaya in collaboration with North East Network (NEN) inaugurated the One Stop Crisis Centre (Iohlynti) on 20 June, 2016 at Ganesh Das Hospital, Shillong. Smti. Deborah Marak, Hon’ble Minister of Social Welfare Department was the Chief Guest at the event. In her address, she committed to provide a flow of funds and infrastructure for the OSCC. She commended NEN on the work done for women and girls in the State. She committed to the opening of more OSCC in different districts of Meghalaya with the help of NEN. The occasion was graced by the presence of Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Shri. H. Marwein, Shri. T. Dkhar, Commissioner Social Welfare Department, Shri. H. Shangpliang, Director Social Welfare Department and NEN’s Chairperson, Executive Director and Founding Members. The One Stop Crisis Centre is a Centre jointly functioning under a MoU signed between NEN, Social Welfare Department and the Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Meghalaya. The MoU was officially handed down to all three parties at the event.
In their address, the officials from Social Welfare Department gave their commitment to work together with NEN and the Health Department for the smooth functioning of the OSCC and to help victims of violence in receiving holistic care and justice. The Director of Social Welfare said that they were in the final stages of finalizing the Women Helpline which will be integrated in the OSCC.
