In collaboraion with Assam police, NEN organised the 2nd training on “Gender Sensitisation on Violence against Women and New Laws for Change” from 4th to 6th February 2015 at Police Training Centre (PTC), Dergaon. The training was conducted for 40 police personnel, belonging to the ranks of constable, sub-inspectors and inspectors, from PTC.
The training comprised of sessions on understanding gender and patriarchy, violence against women from a gendered perspective, discussion on Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005, Criminal Law Amendments Act 2013, role of the police on implementing the Guidelines & Protocols for survivors/victims of sexual violence, Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act 2013 and Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act 2013, witch hunting and trafficking of women in Assam. Discussions on the above issues were carried out with group exercises, presentations by the participants, and film screening etc. The overall objective was to broaden the understanding of the police personnel on Violence Against Women from a gender and women’s rights perspective.
