NEN is addressing the issue of gender based violence against women (VAW) at the grassroots level in four districts of Assam namely, Golaghat, Kamrup, Chirang and Darrang. Field investigators and assistants are placed in these districts to respond to women in abusive relationships or women facing different forms of violence at the community level.
With the objective to equip the 8 field investigators and assistants with skills and strategies to respond to VAW, NEN trained them on Barefoot Counselling -: Build Helping Skills to Mitigate Violence against Women. The training has enabled them to become barefoot counsellors . They have been professionally equipped on counselling and communication skills . More specifically, they have been trained on specific areas for counselling aggrieved women in vulnerable situations.
The trained grassroots women leaders will use counselling as a tool for social change and promote positive living.The two weeks training was conducted by MIND India, Guwahati.
