Grassroot women leaders from West Khasi Hills district, who have contributed a lot to rural development in their respective villages, were trained on women’s human rights to social protection. The training enabled them to conceptualize understanding of gender issues, patriarchy and its interaction with systems of social domination; broaden their perspective on women’s rights to social protection by drawing inter-linkages between women’s ESCPR in the framework of the UDHR and Constitutional Rights; and draw collective strategies for strengthening women’s social protection. Post this training these women have taken initiatives to prevent child sexual abuse by conducting personal safety education programmes for children in their villages in collaboration with NEN, and are now in the progress to acquire government’s schemes for rural women.
