Description:
NEN in collaboration with Assam Police is organising a training on gender, violence against women and new laws for 35 police personnel of the Northern Range covering the districts, Sonitpur, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur and Darrang of Assam.
Objectives:
- Broaden understanding of violence against women in India from a gender and women’s rights perspectives. Specific modules on gender & power will be discussed.
- Focused understanding on issues of domestic violence, witch-hunting, trafficking women in conflict situation and role of police.
- Significance of achieving gender mainstreaming through convergence of various departments and agencies to tackle crimes and violence against women.
- Understanding and working with the new laws for change i.e. Sexual Harassment of Women at Work Place, Criminal Law Amendment Act and POCSO, Supreme Court guidelines on sexual violence and Sharing of local experiences in handling VAW cases.
