Together We Rise, Together We Unite for violence-free communities for Women and Girls: In our collective journey towards ending gender-based violence in the North East Region (NER) of India, NEN Assam organised a marathon on 3rd December across six districts of Assam: Darrang, Dhemaji, Golaghat, Kamrup, Sonitpur, and Udalguri. This marked our participation in the crucial global campaign ’16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence.’
The marathon became a powerful means to raise awareness about the prevailing atrocities against women and girls. Our objective was to foster a collective consciousness among women, youth, teachers, health workers, local government representatives, and communities; and build a shared commitment to end all forms of violence. Following the marathon, discussions delved into the journey of NEN on GBV interventions in Assam. With feminist slogans and songs, this campaign also emerged as an act of resistance against the broader context of global wars and conflict situations in NER and the impact on women and girls.
