The World Environment Day, 2023 was celebrated on June 5 in Dom Marwein area West Khasi Hills District. This area is an upcoming tourist attraction and was identified by NEN’s Women Join Action Committee of the area. The JAC was newly formed and facilitated by NEN, the group came into being after many illegal incidents that occur in the area, the program was attended 200 people from 6 different villages. Officers from Agriculture and Forest Department also attended and gave a speech in the program on how to promote tree plantation, responsible tourism and livelihood activities from the natural resources available in the area. The Agro ecology learning circle from Mariaw shared their traditional knowledge on soil health, organic fertilizers and pest control with the farmers. Seed exchange took place and the program ended with some cultural program and a sale of local produce.
