Sexual harassment at a workplace is severe violation of women’s right to equality, life and liberty. It creates an insecure and hostile work environment, which discourage women’s participation in work, thereby adversely affecting their social and economic empowerment and the goal of inclusive growth. With this idea the legislature formulated the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013.
On 2nd April 2022 NEN conducted an “Interface & Workshop On Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 & Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 in collaboration with District Social Welfare Office, Golaghat, Government of Assam. The interface and workshop held in Golaghat Town had 40 participants including govt district personnel of ICDS, Anganwadi, Ujjwala, Swadhar, OSC, CDPO, ICDS, local committee, BDO among others.
District Social Welfare Officer Gauri Priya Deori, ACS delivered the inaugural speech followed by an exercise on identification of different forms of violence against women by Babli Basumatary, NEN. Technical sessions on Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 and Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 were facilitated by Anurita Hazarika, State Coordinator, NEN and Sauradeep Dey, Advocate, HRLN. All the participants received participation certificates handed by DSWO.
