National Handloom Day was observed on 7 August 2022 in Gramin Mahila Kendras by NEN at Udalguri, Darrang, Kamrup and Sonitpur districts with weavers and women from villages.
In Darrang, 35 weavers participated in the event. Jeevika Sakhi, Maikan Saikia and Village head, Joychandra Nath were invited as guests. In Udalguri, 28 weavers and 2 men participated. Sabita Deka, Jeevika Sakhi and Dilbahar Begum, teacher and social worker were invited as guests.
In Sonitpur, 30 weavers participated and 2 officials from Handloom and Textile department were invited. SikhaGoswami, Demonstrator and Prasanta Rongpi, Verification Officer joined the event and shared about Swa Nirbhar Nari Scheme and its accessibility.
In Kamrup, 32 weavers participated and 4 guests Madhumita Changmai, ICTC Counsellor, CHC Mirza, Dr.Meenakshi Bordoloi, Deputy Superintendent CHC, and Gargi Kashyap were invited.
In all places, the discussions focused on the objective of National Handloom Day, sharing of government schemes, awareness on personal hygiene and health topics such as COVID, AIDS and TB. Weavers were also given the platform to share their voices and experiences with NEN.
