A Capacity Building workshop was organised at Chizami with 10 Weavers from 29 – 31 March 2022. The 3-day workshop covered both practical and theory sessions on stock and inventory management. Weavers from Chozuba, Yoruba , Runguzu Nasa, and Chozuba Town attended the workshop. The weavers represented the weavers collective from their respective communities, for the future interaction and engagements these women leaders will support and bridge the weavers with the livelihood initiative of NEN for a continuous and sustainable development.
The weavers were given an overview of the products of Chizami Weaves and design, and orientation about the process of product costing. The weavers were also given intensive orientation on product sizing and understanding yarn types for each product, to maintain the uniqueness of the products. The team practiced extensively with physical examples to learn to identify quality weaving, to maintain quality of product, how quality is controlled at each level and stages to produce and reach the final destination i.e the market. The team were given a orientation of the entire process on quality check and monitoring.
The session on Importance of inventory management taught the weaver leaders to maintain records of weavers and wage payments and other details for better accountability and transparency in their transactions, which will also add value to their existing skills as weavers and also in handling financial records.
A short session on Leadership was also included to equip the leader to handle their responsibilities in a more professional manner and also build their capacities. The team was also oriented on the basics of building enterprises, to create ideas and inspire future ambitions among the weavers to create similar models in their areas in the near future.
During the final interaction with the leaders the group were in consensus that the livelihood initiatives should be taken up for the development of community women, to provide additional source of income to the family which will also boost the overall quality of living in communities.
The workshop was facilitated by Nenterprise & NEN team supported by Department of Women Resource Development, Nagaland. It as a follow up of the “Product and design development training” conducted in February 2022 at the community level.
