Assam Floods 2026
Assam witnessed one of its worst floods this year, and the state continues to grapple with the devastation it has left behind.
While water levels have receded in parts of the affected districts, the crisis is far from over. In every flood, women, especially adolescent girls, pregnant women, lactating mothers and senior women, are doubly affected due to their gendered vulnerabilities.
Families are returning to homes filled with mud and debris, severely damaged structures, and compounds still waterlogged from the deluge.
In Amkotia, Dimow Kinar Gaon, Sivasagar, the flood has led to loss of livelihood and livestock, damaged people’s access to food and mobility, and disrupted their access to health care and other essential services.
North East Network appealed to well-wishers to contribute towards rebuilding homes in the affected districts. Through our flood relief appeal, we received a total of INR 1,14,651.
As part of this relief effort, on 8 September 2026, we visited Amkotia, Dimow Kinar Gaon, Sivasagar and distributed essential relief materials to 75 affected families. The materials included 2 pieces each of bedsheets, pillows, blankets, soaps, detergent powder, and sanitary pads, per household.
Local logistical support to NEN was extended by Inter Agency Group, Assam.
