The 8th edition of NEN farm school (NFS) was held from 29th June to 3rd July, 2022 at NEN, Chizami. 14 participants from 4 states (Nagaland, Assam, Kerala and Mumbai) took part in the four days programme with the theme Bridging the Farm-To-Plate Gap.
The programme is to engage young people with their environment and ecology, to understand just and sustainable food systems, and inspire young people to take positive actions. Since the launching of the NEN Farm School (formerly Summer Farm School) under the same theme in 2016. Since its inception the farm school has brought together young students from diverse backgrounds and institutions, subject experts, community elders in an holistic learning environment.
The 4 days residential training programme for enthusiastic, open-minded young students brought about another enthusiastic group of young individuals that engaged and participated in the experiential and holistic learning, wherein they learned how to grow food, with hands-on practicals in paddy transplantation and plant potting. Identification and foraging of uncultivated edibles through biodiversity walks, learn about seed systems, insects as more than pollinators, soil, and others.
