Presenting diverse flavours and innovative recipes, the Millet Value Addition Training was organised in NEN Resource Centre, Chizami, from 3rd to 5th October 2023. This training focused on the preparation of simple millet recipes using commonly available kitchen tools. Some of the recipes included millet pancakes, pakodas, sweets, cakes, etc. This training also aimed to reintegrate millet as a part of indigenous food practices.
The training sessions were attended by 10 participants from Chizami Village, Chizami Town, Enhulumi & Shamator. The session started with an insightful exploration of the significance of millets. Not only were participants given hands-on training on baking with millet, but they also had the opportunity to recreate traditional recipes and share stories revolving around them. Moreover, the training focused on the art of presentation, from plating to photography, creating a wholesome experience for all the participants.
This International Year of Millet, North East Network Nagaland has taken many steps to promote millet as a part of food and culture. This Millet Value Addition Training is one such step. It creates awareness and re-introduces the flavours of millets. The participants are expected to take forward not just the recipes but also play a significant role in promoting millets in their communities. These sessions also help ensure livelihood opportunities for rural women and help them become agents of change.
