North East Network celebrated International Women’s Day 2021, across Assam. The theme was “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world on the way to the Generation Equality Forum”.
NEN in Assam lined up events that highlighted Women’s leadership role within her family, community and the society at large. The campaign theme for International Women’s Day 2021 is ‘Choose To Challenge’.
International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
FELICITATION OF FRONTLINE HEALTH WORKERS
During the COVID-19 epidemic, frontline health workers served as the backbone of the health system and played a critical role in providing medical assistance along with connecting families and communities to the health system. To appreciate the tremendous contribution of Frontline health workers, NEN in Assam felicitated ASHA workers for their support to Gramin Mahila Kendra(GMK)s during Covid-19 epidemic and Lockdown period.
The felicitation event took place at Muslim Harpara Village, Mirza, Kamrup on 5th March, and was part of NEN’s Women’s Day pre-celebration.
STREETPLAY ON AWARENESS AGAINST WITCH HUNTING
Assam, like many other parts across the country, often witnesses atrocious violence against women, resulting from witch hunting. On the occasion of International Women’s Day on 8th March 2021, NEN’s youth collective from Udalguri, Assam performed a street play to raise awareness against witch hunting. After the performance, the young and responsible members of the youth collective, declared their resolve to challenge gender based discrimination and stereotypes. They pledged to continue their fight against all forms of gender based discrimination and violence against women and girls in their communities.
