North East Network has been working with women at the grassroots level leading to the establishment of Gramin Mahila Kendras in villages. The Kendras are safe spaces for women and are led by women peer leaders and community mobilisers. The Kendras have 33 support groups of women farmers, survivors and weavers across 6 districts. Using a gender lens, the groups address issues of gender based violence on women through direct counseling services, promote livelihood, engage with youth, link community women with government agencies for state entitlements, etc. They have been instrumental in transforming changes at the community level.
The Convention will will be held from 26-27 March 2023 at CBCNEI Panbazar Campus, and will bring together about 100 women leaders, field mobilisers, farmers, artists, weavers, barefoot counselors, survivors and youth, with a vision to promote feminist solidarity, friendship and sisterhood. It will include panel discussions in Assamese, an exhibition, release of publications and a cultural function.
