Funded by Ford Foundation, the project has beenimplemented since 1st January 2019 and ending on 31st December, 2022.NEN’s long term goal is economic empowerment of rural women in north east India alongside upholding of their social and cultural rights, through sustainable livelihoods linked to preservation of their traditional practices of weaving, cultivation and collective work culture.
Saneki Weaves works with 40 (approx) weavers including women survivors of violence and abuse from Darrang, Sonitpur and Udalguri districts. The Saneki Weaves brand aims to promote local resources and existing skills of indigenous women preserving the back-strap loom weaving practices of women from the Mising tribe as well as the throw shuttle loom weaving culture of women from other communities in Assam. The hand-woven products of Saneki Weaves are sold at NEN Guwahati and Okum Guest house, Dharikati in Sonitpur district.
