In an effort to equip professionals working in the development sector in the North Eastern Region, North East Network (NEN) in collaboration with ‘Teaching Where It Matters’ began its journey on a 6 months Diploma in Permaculture- Designer and Educator from November 2022 to May 2023.
A multidisciplinary outlook that is an ethically based, whole-system design approach to create sustainable human settlement and institutions. With the key focus on whole-system thinking, design & landscape planning that can be applied to anything, from a home garden or farm to a township or entire village or at workplace or lifestyle choices. The hands-on experiential course uses design principles from nature itself and takes into account things such as how indigenous people used the land; how water, fire, and wind flow through the land; and how soil, water, vegetation, buildings, and habitats can be managed in a stable and enduring way. The course is intended to use the existing skills one has and enhance it with new insights and outlook of systems of the living and nonliving world.
The diploma course is divided into 3 parts – Initiation , Mentoring/Reinforcement and Enablement Phase. The Initiation phase, the foundational course was conducted from 1st to 10th November 2022 at Women Resource Centre, Runguzu nasa, Phek District, Nagaland with the participation of 14 professionals from Nagaland, Meghalaya and Manipur. The cohort will continue its Mentoring/ Reinforcement phase through regular online sessions and culminate the course in May 2023 with the Enablement phase.
