Initiated by the United Nations in the year 1974, World Environment Day is celebrated every year on 5th June to raise awareness for the protection of the environment. The global campaign focuses on various environmental issues such as pollution, global warming, sustainable consumption and wildlife crime. The theme for the year 2020 is ‘Time for Nature’ with a focus on the importance of nature and environment as the source of essential infrastructure on which all life on earth and human development depend.
On the occasion of the World Environment Day, North East Network, Assam mobilized youths and women from Darrang, Dhemaji, Kamrup, Golaghat, Sonitpur and Udalguri to make posters and slogans on importance of environment, sustainable future, protection and restoration of the environment through environmentally friendly practices, innovative strategies, etc. NEN strives towards raising consciousness about the environment. Youths and women from the communities have presented beautiful artworks, posters rightfully conveying the message of ‘Time for Nature’ and a sustainable future for all.
