North East Network organized a 3-day Capacity Building Workshop on Gender and Sexuality for NEN team members from all state offices, on 26-28th March 2019. The Workshop was facilitated by Talking about Reproductive Sexual Health Issues (TARSHI), New Delhi. TARSHI works on issues related to sexuality, provides capacity building to stakeholders such as teachers, organizations that work with communities and offers an online course on comprehensive sexuality globally.
The main objective of the training was to enhance the team’s understanding related to gender and sexuality. The workshop opened a platform for open discussions related to intersectionality of gender, power, sexuality, sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) and violence against women and girls. The methodology of the training included discussions, video screening, quiz and games that created a participative environment. A total of 18 NEN staff members were present. Towards the end of the training, a way forward was conducted where strategies on how to inculcate and implement Safe Inclusive Sexuality Affirming (SISA) spaces were put forth. SISA offers an environment that is non-judgmental, rights-based and sexuality-affirming, where people can safely explore and express their sexuality and sexual wellbeing.
