Meet Bajoplin karmudai, a resident of Shillong, Meghalaya who is an outreach worker of North East Network. The pandemic has brought everyone to a standstill. According to her observation she noticed that children are also very much affected especially with their given phase in life to grow mentally and physically. She had noticed that the children were only confined at home either with online classes or stuck with their virtual gadgets. She took the initiative to help them grow and learn about the advantages of a kitchen garden. As we all know, the importance of a kitchen garden is great and manifold. A kitchen garden ensures an inexpensive, regular and handy supply of fresh vegetables which are basic to nutrition. The green vegetables contain vitamins and minerals which protect us against diseases.
So, to her immediate response, she gathered a few of the children from her neighborhood and started this experiment in her brother’s garden by planting their first trial of cabbages on the 8th of April,2020 and the results were fruitful. They had harvested these cabbages on the 25th of July,2020 and they were immensely happy with the fruits they had reaped and now even started with a second phase of the plantation. This activity had helped the children learn about basic agriculture and their parents too were very proud of them.
Basic survival is the need of the hour, lets all join hands together by doing our part and take this as an example in contributing for better days ahead.
